Youth of Assam

The most memorable and significant phase of a person’s life are his youthful days as it is the most fruitful and productive period of an individual’s life and this is the phase when an individual becomes independent and learns to take his or her own decisions. The youth are considered to be the future of a nation or a state, likewise, the youth of Assam are also the future of the state and nurturing them is important in order to make the state a better place to live. However, the youth of the state faces several challenges, which needs to be resolved and provide them opportunities to use their energy in the right way and in the right direction.
 

Unemployment is a major issue faced by the young generation of the state and owing to this; they are forced to migrate to other parts of India in search of jobs. Everyone likes to stay at their own hometowns with their families; however, the lack of job opportunities in the state is one of the major issues faced by them and they change their base in order to earn their daily bread and butter. Government should look into the matter and create opportunities for employment of the youth within the state. Improvement in the education system of the state as well is important to prevent youth from migrating to other parts of the country.
 

Furthermore, the youth of Assam are highly influenced by the western culture and most of them who are staying outside their homes in other parts of the country are involved in various kinds of addictions, which include alcohol, marijuana, cannabis, etc. However, the youth of Assam have started idealizing marijuana, money and metropolitan cities. Smoking of Marijuana has become common among Assamese students and young professionals staying away from their homes. There are many reasons that can be citied for the increasing rate of using marijuana by the young Assamese staying in the metros. One of the prime reasons is that it is less expensive than alcohol and other intoxicating stuffs. Moreover, it is called a happy drug as it does not make one violent or makes one cry, fumble while speaking, etc. and it is considered to be better as it does not cause any hangover the next day like alcohol consumption. Another reason that can be stated to justify this increase in consumption of intoxicating substances is the myth that the youth of Assam or rather the youth of the entire North-Eastern states have is that to understand or feel rock music it is important to get intoxicated. One more reason is that many smokes up seeing others and there are very few non young people in the present time who are smokers of Marijuana. Most of the smokers do it seeing their comrades or friends and feels that “if everyone can, then why can’t I”. This thinking is of every young people who have uncovered the grimy furtive of life. This has turned out to be a major issue among the youth of the state, which needs to be given importance if they are to bring about changes in the state.
 

The youth population of Assam is full of energy, enthusiasm, intelligence, diligence and sincerity and their energy needs to be channelized in the right direction. In addition, employment opportunities should be created in order to stop the migration of the youth to other states of India by welcoming companies from other parts of the country, by improving the infrastructure and encouraging industrialization and last but not the least should bring up self-employment schemes which will encourage the young people to become entrepreneurs’. Even the youth of Assam has the potential to bring about revolution in the state and change the present condition of the state, which is full of corruption, where natural resources are underutilized, crimes are increasing at an alarming rate, etc. It is only the youth of Assam, who can bring about the changes that are necessary for the development and progress of the state. However, it is important to address the issues that are faced by the youth of the state and resolve them.
