Rise of BJP in Assam

After the Lok Sabha Polls in 2014, lotus bloomed on the banks of the mighty River Brahmaputra. There had been a lot of hue and cry, and numerous stories of the polls about who will win and form government in the centre. After the results BJP won with absolute majority and formed the Government at the center. However, the interesting story is the onset of BJP in the eastern part of the country, especially in Assam.  The political scenario of Assam had completely changed during the 14th Lok Sabha elections. Although, BJP was a strong contender for Congress even in the state of Assam, this time the party had come out really strong and won over 7 seats in the entire state. Sarbananda Sonwal, the Assam President of BJP expected 5 to 6 seats in 14 constituencies of the state, but was overwhelmed, when they won 7 seats out of 14. This was a big win for Bharatiya Janata Party, marking the rise of the orange party in Assam, which is a major state of North-East India and the commercial hub of the region.

The rise of BJP in the state of Assam was the result of the party workers' hard work and of course the magic of Mr. Narendra Modi worked, who carried out 3 rallies in the state without the support or plans to collaborate with its official ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Even though, there were issues on which BJP could depend on and stride for power, the main reason is the failure of AGP. To elucidate any definite policy on the most critical issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants for which AGP was voted to power had failed, which in turn worked in favor of BJP. Moreover, the constant issues of corruption, illegal immigration, flood, etc. faced by the people of the state during the rule of the Congress Government had triggered people to support BJP with a ray of hope that things will be better.

The orange party bloomed on the banks of the River Brahamaputra, and this was all perhaps the magic of Narendra Modi. Although the party had been one of the major parties in the state after AGP started to break down, it was still far behind the Congress Party that had been in power since last 15 years, i.e. last 3 consecutive terms. It only had 19 % of the total share of votes in the state, but the hard work and diligence of the party workers had resulted in acquiring 7 seats in 14 constituencies of the state, facilitating in rise of the party in the state of Assam, which was mainly a Congress and AGP dominated state.

After the victory in the last Lok Sabha election, BJP has again nailed their victory in the recent state election, which was held in two phases - 4th April 2016 and 11th April 2016. They have won with absolute majority by securing 60 seats out of 126. The orange party is now all set to form their government in Assam with Sarbananda Sonwal as the Chief Minister . However, this win is just the beginning and they have a long way to go. The people of Assam has voted for a change with a hope to see a better Assam.
